pencer was once very strong and could physically outlast all in his generation. The elder Amberites thought he was sure to follow in the footsteps of Benedict or Gerard. His father, Caine and the Captain of the Amber guard trained him for several decades in the art of swordplay, combat and warfare. When his teachers thought he was ready, the dagger Sting was gifted to Spencer. Sting was bonded to Spencer with his own blood.
By this time, all of his contemporaries had walked the Pattern, but because of the training regime that he undertook, he had not walked the pattern. Another twenty years would pass before Spencer felt that it would be prudent to explore Shadow, and he set out to walk the Pattern. At first, his Pattern Walk appeared to be proceeding normally, but when he encountered the first veil, he stopped. It took three days for Spencer to pass the first veil, two more for the second and a final four to pass the third veil. On the tenth day, he Pattern jumped into the Amber throne room and collapsed into a deep coma.
The Spencer that came out of the Pattern was physically changed. The once robust, muscular body was slight and fragile. Two months after his ill fated Pattern Walk, his nurse came into his chamber to find him gone. There was no sign of violence or struggle, but he could not be contacted by trump. Many years have passed since the disappearance of Spencer, but he has recently returned to Amber from a shadow unknown. He has not aged greatly and has not discussed his time away from Amber. He is still physically frail and seems to be preoccupied and distant.
Sting is constantly at his side, and his symbol is a replica of Sting carved out of turquoise.
